Since its inception, the KYC Navigation has been updated to include data from the following additional jurisdictions: Guernsey, Jersey, Liberia, the Marshall Islands, Moldova, Monaco, Qatar and Serbia.
Public consultations are pending in the Guernsey and Jersey jurisdictions regarding proposals for a framework to determine who should have access to information on the beneficial ownership of companies. The proposals aim to extend access to the beneficial ownership register to individuals who can demonstrate a legitimate interest in accessing beneficial owner information for the purposes of preventing, detecting or investigating money laundering, terrorist financing or proliferation financing.
Notably, the Marshall Islands and Liberia are popular choices for ship registration due to the advantages they offer shipowners as a flag state, as are Panama and Liberia.
Monaco is on the FATF grey list. Further information on this topic can be found in the post ‘FATF grey and black lists’.
